Honouring Excellence: Tracy Robinson Receives the Ken Neeb Memorial Award

When we celebrate success within the Northern Ontario Hockey Association, we usually look to the standings, the banners, or the players moving on. But if you pull back the curtain on any successful minor hockey program, you’ll find one person holding it together. They are the builders of culture and the leaders who ensure hockey remains a welcoming, positive experience for our families.

This year, the NOHA is thrilled to present the prestigious Ken Neeb Memorial Award to Tracy Robinson of the Iroquois Falls Minor Hockey Association (IFMHA). Established in 1975 in memory of a passionate promoter of Northern hockey, this award recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding, lasting contribution to the game.

Shifting the Culture in Iroquois Falls

Tracy’s volunteer journey began out of a simple desire to help, managing her father’s U18 team in 2009. By 2014, witnessing decisions that were driving young athletes away from the sport, she stepped up to join the IFMHA Board of Directors as Secretary.

At the time, the association was at a critical turning point—player numbers were dwindling, and divisions were incomplete. Tracy became the catalyst for a total cultural overhaul. She championed a player-first, inclusive mindset, ensuring organizational strategy prioritized the collective good of all players rather than individual competitive teams.

Removing Barriers and Serving the Community

Tracy’s dedication extended far beyond governance to tackle the financial burdens facing hockey families:

  • The "Hockey Helper" 50/50: Tracy spearheaded an association-wide raffle that has sold out for 12 consecutive seasons.

  • Growing the Game For Free: The proceeds fund a landmark initiative covering 100% of registration costs for any player aged 10 and under trying hockey for the first time, removing financial barriers for countless local families.

  • Countless Hats: Over nearly two decades, Tracy has acted as team manager for 15 different teams, co-hosted some of the finest tournaments in the North, and volunteered with local junior golf and little rock curling—all while balancing life as a travelling hockey mom.

Why Tracy Represents the Best of the NOHA

The true value of a leader like Tracy Robinson is measured in the thriving culture of her community. Her big heart, accessibility, and strong leadership have made her the trusted, go-to resource for parents, players, and coaches alike. She doesn't do it for the accolades; she does it to ensure every child has a safe, joyful, and affordable place to play.

Thank You, Tracy!

On behalf of the entire Northern Ontario Hockey Association, we congratulate Tracy Robinson on this well-deserved honour. Thank you for the barriers you’ve broken down, the community spirit you’ve fostered, and the endless dedication you’ve poured into Iroquois Falls.

The players might score the goals, but leaders like you keep the game moving forward.
