The NOHA and Zebrasclub.com are excited to announce the March Official of the Month- Login McCarthy of Mindemoya, Ontario.

Login is a first-year official who has already demonstrated a strong commitment to the game.

He is eager to support surrounding associations whenever needed and brings a positive attitude to every opportunity. As a goaltender, Logan is embracing the transition to officiating and continues to grow in his role.

Thank you, Login, for your dedication to hockey through your officiating efforts

Congratulations, Login! All Officials of the Month receive a generous prize pack sponsored by our official partner Zebrasclub.com.

Login provided the following responses to our interview questions:

How did you get started in officiating?

I wanted to understand the game better as a goalie. Plus, our association needed more young refs, so I figured I’d give it a try.

Once I did my first game, I realized it wasn’t as scary as I thought, and I actually liked being part of the game in a different way.

What is the greatest lesson you've learned?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t make everyone happy. Someone will always disagree with a call, but you have to stay confident and calm. It taught me to trust myself more.

You learn to shake things off fast and move on to the next play.

What do you love most about officiating?

I love that I get to see the game from a totally different angle. As a goalie, everything happens in front of me, but as a ref, I’m right in the middle of the action. It feels good knowing I’m helping the game happen — without refs, nobody plays.

What would you tell aspiring or young Officials to help them get started?

I’d tell them not to be scared to try it. Everyone makes mistakes, even the older refs. The important thing is to learn from each game and keep improving. Start with younger age groups so you can build confidence, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The more you do it, the easier it gets.

Respectfully

Login McCarthy
