The NOHA and Zebrasclub.com are excited to announce the November Official of the Month - Graeme Smith of Iron Bridge, Ontario.
Graeme is currently in his second year as an Official with the NOHA. He demonstrates a high level of coachability and a strong commitment to ongoing development. His professionalism both on and off the ice exemplifies the standards expected of Officials, and he serves as a positive role model within the hockey community.
Graeme showcases all the excellent qualities we hope to see among NOHA Officials.
Congratulations, Graeme! All Officials of the Month receive a generous prize pack sponsored by our official partner Zebrasclub.com
We had the chance to ask Graeme some questions about what officiating means to him.
How did you get started in officiating?
I saw other kids I played hockey with starting to referee and I thought it would be a good way to combine my favorite sport with having a part time job.
What is the greatest lesson you've learned?
Nothing really stands out specifically - but the responsibility of keeping kids safe, being fair and consistent is something that is always in the back of my mind.
What do you love most about officiating?
When the younger kids recognize me from when I was a player and now I am refereeing their game - makes me smile and hopefully shows them they can do it too.
What would you tell aspiring or young Officials to help them get started?
Just do it! Be part of the game we all love.
