Clinic Introduction

The NOHA is pleased to announce the details of the first session of the NOHA Coaching Development Webinar Series:

Topic: Hockey Pathways and Effective Offensive Team Play

Date: June 16th, 2020 – 6:00 PM to 7:30PM

Presenter: Mike McParland, Head Coach, Nipissing Lakers Varsity Men’s Team

Cost: FREE

Clinic Structure

The clinic will be delivered in an online webinar format. Clinic attendees will require a laptop with a sufficient internet connection to view the presentation . The concepts presented will include key theories, video examples, and questions to keep in mind when teaching your team.

The concepts are the following:

· Introduction to the Speaker and his pathway to his current position in Hockey

· Understanding the Technical Skills and Individual Tactics required for success in Offensive Team Play

· Understanding the four principles of offensive team play

· Transition

· Support

· Pressure

· Puck Control

· Faceoffs

· Questions from the Clinic Attendees

Coaches who attend will receive three Certification Maintenance Points towards their Development 1 or High Performance 1 “Certified” Status.

About Mike McParland

Mike played his junior hockey with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League (now known as the Ontario Hockey League). After two seasons with the Wolves, he transitioned to the University of Guelph Gryphons for two seasons, where he earned Athlete of the Year honours and was eventually inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2012, as part of the 1979 and 1980 Gryphons teams. From there, he played in professionally in the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland. After his playing career end, he coached over twenty years in the Swiss National League. Nationally, he coached Team Canada at the Skoda Cup in Piestany, winning the Championship. He helped construct numerous Spengler Cup teams and after twenty-eight years in Europe, returned home to North Bay to build the Nipissing University Lakers Men’s Varsity Hockey Team. The Lakers have been nationally ranked for a number of years. Mike is a High Performance 1 presenter, group leader, and evaluator for the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF). He loves delivering the Development 1 and Checking Skills 1 programs in North Bay for the NOHA.
