Team NOHA Victorious in OHL Cup Opener

Toronto, ON – Goaltender Reece Proulx made 29 saves, posting a shutout as Team NOHA opened the 2018 OHL Cup with a 3-0 win over the London Jr. Knights.

After playing a scoreless first period, Team NOHA finally found the back of the net when a Gavin Brown wrist-shot off the rush beat London’s goaltender up high at the 14:09 mark of the second period.

The third period saw the turning point of the game as Proulx made a remarkable cross-crease save to stymie a London short-handed opportunity. The North extended the lead, courtesy of defenseman Pacey Schlueting, who buried a loose puck past the Knights’ goaltender at the other end.

Defenseman Spenser Dickson added even more insurance, converting on an odd-man rush at the 10:38 mark.

Proulx, after several breakaway stops, was named Player of the Game for Team NOHA.

Team NOHA is undefeated in the last five games at the OHL Cup (two-game winning streak, three ties), continuing the success started by the 2001 age-group last season.

Team NOHA will look to go 2-0 in their next game, tonight at 7:30 PM at the Scotiabank Pond (Ice #1) vs. the Vaughan Kings. The Kings, who were the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) semifinalists, played a 2-2 tie in their OHL Cup opener last night vs. the Oakville Rangers.
