OHF Bulletin 24-020 - OHF Survey Part 3 - Regular Season and Playoff Phase

As a Member/Association of the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), we are forwarding the following survey.

The Ontario Hockey Federation wants to understand your experiences with the new Playing Regulations for the 2023-2024 season.

The first Survey that was sent out in September sought feedback on the Preparation and Evaluation Phases. The second survey explored your experience with the Development Phase.

The Regular Season and Playoff Phase survey will be open until Sunday, May 12, 2024, and will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. As a reminder, the 2023-2024 season was made up of 5 phases:

- The Preparation phase is considered non-team development opportunities that take place once the playoffs are complete and before the Player Evaluations commence.

- The Player Evaluation phase provides flexibility in the format that Associations’ tier their Registered Participants and still allows and encourage Associations to tier players with similar skill. Within tryouts, a player either makes the team or does not.

- The Development Phase is a 27-day period that takes place after Labour Day where teams may only play a maximum of four (4) exhibition games and/or one Tournament. On-ice practices are permitted during this period.

- The Regular Season phase was permitted to start as of October 2, 2023 and is recommended to have a maximum of 46 games, including exhibition, league, playoff/tournament games. Within this phase, it is recommended to have two seasonal breaks (not including Christmas/long weekends) that include a minimum of five days without a scheduled game or mandatory practice.

- The Playoff Phase is either tournament-style or elimination rounds with a continued effort to reinforce skill-development elements in practices.

Your feedback will be used in future decisions that support player development.

Your participation is completely voluntary. You do not have to answer any questions you do not want to and may stop the questionnaire at any time.
