  • Baber and Vescio Selected for Hockey Canada U17 Development Camp

    The NOHA would like to congratulate Camaryn Baber (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) and Payton Vescio (North Bay, ON) on being selected to attend the upcoming Hockey Canada National Under-17 Development Camp on July 22 to August 1, 2017 in Calgary. Camaryn Baber is a centre who played for the Soo Greyhounds Midget AAA this past season. In 38 games played (regular season and playoffs), he had 37 goals, 32 assists, and 107 PIMs. He was drafted by the Saginaw Spirit in the 3rd Round, 57th Overall. He played for Team NOHA at the OMHA Eastern AAA Showcase, OHL Cup, and the OHL Gold Cup. He was named the NOHA Minor Midget Player of the year at the OHL Cup. Payton Vescio is a defencemen who played for the North Bay Trappers Midget AAA this past season. In 43 games played (regular season and playoffs), he had 7 goals, 21 assists, and 24 PIMs. He was drafted by the North Bay Battalion in the 4th Round, 72nd Overall. He played for Team NOHA at the OMHA Eastern AAA Showcase, OHL Cup, and the OHL Gold Cup. Payton was a part of the Trappers team that won a bronze medal at the 2017 Central Region Midget AAA Championships in Sudbury. The National Under-17 Development Camp brings together the top 111 players from across the country to select three teams that will compete at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, B.C.

  • 2017 OHF Awards

    The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) Awards Program began at the 2001 Annual General Meeting of the Federation. Awards have continued to be presented on an annual basis. Three members of the NOHA were honoured this past weekend by the OHF: Nickel City Hockey Association President Gus Lescault, District 2/8 Referee-in-Chief Matt Davie, and Diane Riddle, spouse of NOHA First Vice President Hugh Riddle. Gus, who is a long-time volunteer with the Valley East Progressive Hockey Association and now with the Nickel City Hockey Association, was selected as this year’s recipient of the Dr. Allan Morris Award. The award is presented to recognize the outstanding achievement of an individual who has exemplified dedication to amateur hockey and the mission of the Branch. Matt Davie was presented with the OHF Officiating Award, as he joins the likes of Ken Miller, Glen Campbell, Keith Grenke and most recently Robert Gagnon, as NOHA members who have been recognized for their contribution to the game both on and off the ice. The Christine Penman Award is given to an OHF companion who has made a significant contribution to goodwill and cooperation among the OHF companions and within the Board of the OHF. Diane is a very worthy recipient of this award! Congratulations to each of this year’s award recipients!

  • NOHA Official Selected to Skate RBC Cup

    Congratulations to NOHA official Kyle Lekun who was selected to officiate the nationally televised RBC Cup Championship Game in Cobourg, ON. The 24-year old Sudbury native wrapped up his fifth season as an on-ice official Sunday night. Lekun recently lined the Gold Medal Game at the 2017 Midget AAA Central Region Championship and was also selected as a linesman for the 2016 Dudley-Hewitt Cup in Kirkland Lake.
